Land Research Associates are consultants specialising in all aspects of soils, land and its use. We undertake soil surveys for assessing the agricultural quality of land, the suitability of land for other uses such as forestry, habitat support and waste recycling, and the environmental impact of built development. Soil surveys are also carried out to plan the working and eventual reclamation of quarried land and we have contributed to published UK guidance on the reclamation of landfills.

Many ‘wastes’, such as sewage sludge (biosolids) and composts can be beneficially used to fertilise agricultural land, improve the soils of landscaping areas and also in land reclamation. In this we have many years of experience as lead consultants to major UK companies. Soil filters and transforms applied chemicals, such as fertilisers and pesticides, and transmits and stores water. Our comprehensive knowledge of UK soils, coupled with our skills in soil survey, soil physics and soil hydrology, is used to assist various projects ranging from government soil quality monitoring programmes to the impact of groundwater change on habitats or crops, and the environmental fate of pesticides.

Worldwide, staff and associates have worked as consultants to projects planning irrigation schemes and land reclamation, and have trained scientists in soil survey and land suitability assessment.
